![]() ![]() The R3 would also solve your problem but you might not like the highs as much without EQ, I preferred the LS50 until I got the measurements here and fixed the dip from 1-3k, now they beat the LS50 from top to bottom and I don't have to worry about distortion or crossing them over at 120Hz. Apart from the integrated amplification and crossover system, the KEF LS50 Meta has all of the same features as the LS50 Wireless 2, including the Uni-Q coaxial driver with MAT. I dont think a cheap mini-dsp is good enough. LS50 Meta is a highly precise, emotionally engaging loudspeaker built on revolutionary acoustic technology. But the signal must go trough an AD/DA extra, making it less transparent. With a dsp you can do HP crossover at 100 Hz with 48 dB/oct, which is a big benefit if one wants to reduce cone-excursion. Most people who have them have found that using higher crossovers makes them play louder and cleaner as well, I could only go as high as 120 in a 5.1 setup but if you have a stereo setup with the sub close to your mains you might be able to get away with 150-200Hz, measurements are important if you go higher as well to ensure your sub is properly rolling off, at 120 or above it helps to add in a 1st or 2nd order low pass to roll the sub off more sharply. The KEF LS50 Meta are the passive versions of the KEF LS50 Wireless 2, whose performance we praised in our KEF LS50 Wireless II: an iconic model revisited review. A dsp in series with the signal must be transparent enough to not destroy the qualitys of Kef ls50 meta. But the 2nd active KEF product Ive ever bought, the KC62 failed after 2 months. Now I have passive LS50 meta that works really nicely with my PA5 amp. KEF faced this with the LS50 which (terrifyingly) will be ten years old in 2022. I first had LS50 wireless that broke on me, no exposed wires in that setup, its all internal. If you're completely happy with the LS50 except for the lack of bass the best option is to properly dial in your sub, the only way to do that is to measure them and apply EQ to get a good blend. The two products were completely different setups. The LS50 Meta are class leaders at this level, and the best all-rounders for. The "clarity" you speak of is basically due to the boosted region around 2k, it gives them a very open, spacious sound but it can be fatiguing over time, I had to EQ them a bit, the R3 also benefit from EQ. Gore Violence Profanity Crossover Human Active: Sam built a wall. I had the LS50's for a few years and just recently upgraded to the R3.
